Question
Hi, My mother has recently had a brain tumor removed that was a lung cancer tumor . She also has two smaller tumors in the lungs. she has gone through radiation and is currently going through chemo .  She was on 4mg decadron and was doing great except for blurred vision and edema. She has some lost of vision from surgery and here prognosis is stage four lung cancer . they have reduced the decadron down to 1 mg every other day and she has no energy will spend days in bed .always tired getting really depressed . My question is why can't she stay on the decadron for the rest of her days left .Or can she try another medication that can give her her appetite and energy back. Right now her quality of life is horrible  . Thank you for any info

Answer
I'm sorry to read about her condition! Since her lung cancer has spread to her brain it is now unfortunately a stage 4 lung cancer and as such incurable and eventually fatal. Radiation therapy and chemotherapy can unfortunately only prolong the process somewhat. Her decadron medication can not really change her situation unfortunately. I estimate her remaining life time to be at most measured in months but may also be much shorter. I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!
