Question
my mother's age is 47 yrs and recently we found (left superior frontal region extra-axial wide meningeal based T1 isotense T2/FLAIR hypointense solid heterogenous signal intensity well  defined mass lesion  measuring 2.83* 2.15 cm * 3.01 cm  at the buckling cortex with underlying hyperostosis of frontal bone- Calcific meningioma  ) reports from MRI scanning report.. Doctor suggested to  operate and remove the content and i  am  worried about the operation  and after the operation (condition of patient) and i  would like to  know whether to  go  for operation  or else any other way to  cure it without operation?and now te symptoms are like she is getting headache , body pains on  one side... sometimes giddi ness.So  please suggest me wt treatment can i have?

Answer
Well with this kind of tumour something has to be done to cure her. In principle there are 2 different methods of treatment available. 1. Surgical operation as suggested. 2. Stereotactic radiation therapy without surgery using the so called "GammaKnife" or proton beams. A "GammaKnife" is available in New Delhi. However while her tumour is not too big for radiation therapy it is rather big AND it is calcified. And the calcified part can not be destroyed by radiation. I'm therefore - like her doctor - inclined to recommend surgery in her case. Since it is a benign lesion - a meningioma - a cure is possible but treatment IS NECESSARY! Good luck!
