Question
Hi,

My mother was diagnosed with 4 brain tumors at age 70. Unfortunately, we were told,  at that time there was nothing we could do for her.

I am now 53 and because I am so much like my mother, I feel like this will be passed on to me. Is there a way to screen or monitor on a more regular basis? Are there blood tests or some kind of tests I should be taking proactively to detect early signs?

Thanks,

Tom

Answer
What KIND of brain tumors did she have? There are many kinds. You mention that she had 4. Did they really start in her brain or did they spread to there from elsewhere? That seems more probable. If so from where? Without knowing this it is impossible to answer. If they started somewhere else and spread to her brain your worries may have some basis in fact. But primary brain tumors (that start in the brain) have at present no known genetic (hereditary) factors.
