Question
My Mom was diagnosed with a GBM in December 2009. She had radiation and temador for 6 weeks so she has not had any treatment since the end of Feb 2010. She was on steroids for the swelling and in July we had to take her to the emergency room because she was very weak. We had an MRI done which showed swelling in the brain and they up her steroid dosage. We decided to try avastin as this seemed to be good for treating GBM'S. Once she had the avastin she developed a bowel and ulcers perforation. The doctors said surgery was not an options because of the avastin she would not heal from the surgery. They said we should let nature take it's course. I want to know are we doing the right thing in not treating the bowel and ulcers perforation as well as the tumor??

Answer
I'm sorry to read about her - and your - problems! Even with Avastin and a full treatment (surgery, radiation therapy & chemotherapy) the prognosis of a GBM is so extremely bad that I can not say that you are doing something wrong! I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!
