Question
Is it possible to miss diagnose a thalamus brain tumor after having two MRI's done and surgery to open the head and take a biopsiy of the tumor, my friend who is that the Tucson Medical Univeristy is being told she doesnt have a brain tumor only a stroke, if so what did the doctor take out of her head to have sent off to be biopysied?

Answer
Yes it is possible but very uncommon. What was taken out was a piece of dead brain tissue from the stroke area. I once sent a patient to the neurosurgeons because both CT scans and MRI scans showed a suspected brain tumor. That turned out to be a bleeding in the brain.
