Brain Tumors/Headaches

Question
Hello Jeremy.

I've had a headache over the last 3 weeks that has started to worry me. I usually never get a headache, and when I do, it lasts no longer than 3 days. So this headache lasting 3 weeks has me a little worried, as I mentioned.

It isn't a TERRIBLE headache, but it's bad enough for me to notice and it's annoying. It's around my forehead/right temple/right eye. It gets worse when I bend over, then go straight up again and it gets worse with exercise.

I went to my primary doctor and he thought it may be sinus headaches and gave some medicine which didn't make it better. Tylonol, etc. hasn't worked either.

Do you think I have a reason to be worried here?

Thanks

Answer
Nick:
Ruling out primary and secondary factors will help me help you.  Let's rule out some things.
1.  Environmental Factors:  Too much noise, too much light, allergy producing antigens that trigger immune response, pollution, alcohol, tobacco use.
2. Physical Factors:  Diet of balanced protein, carbohydrates, lipids, fats.  Medical history; do you have a history of ailments that would cause direct or indirect symptoms of head pain.
3. Psychological Factors: Keeping stress low, managing anxiety, sleeping enough.
All of these things individually have a propensity to cause headaches but if they are combined they can cause severe headaches.
You could try a couple things.  If traditional prescription and OTC medicine didn't eradicate the pain first try seeing a chiropractor.  Most insurance carriers cover such expenses and if they don't many spine specialists will work with you by having your back and/or neck adjusted at a very low cost.
If it's not something as simple as an adjustment to relieve fluid buildup that can cause headaches, you will absolutely need to get back to your doctor.  Many health plans include the stipulation that a family practitioner/doctor needs to make a referral to a specialist like a neurologist.  Check your health insurance regarding their policy requirements.  If they do not require a referral then contact a neurologist in your area.  Explain what you've been experiencing and and that the medications you've tried have not salivated the pain. Hopefully they'll be able to schedule you an appointment without delay.  If you need help finding a reputable Neurologist in your area I am more than willing to help.  All I need, if you would like assistance, is the area you live.
I hope this answers your question Nick; if you have any others please don't hesitate to ask.
