Brain Tumors/Low Grade Astrocytoma / glioma in right frontal lobe

Question
I am 38 years. A year ago, I suffered from fits while sleeping at night. CT scan revealed tumor in right frontal lobe, which was confirmed by an MRI later. It was diagnosed as Low grade ASTROCYTOMA/GLIOMA. i WAS ALSO advised to take Tegrol (CAMBERPIZENE) 200mg 1+1+1 DAILY for fits. Since then my fits are under control. I am following normal working except that my sleep cycle has increased from approx 7 to 9 hours daily. A repeat MRI after 6 months of diagnosis revealed no significant change. My doctor advised me to keep monitoring the tumor at 6 months interval till any changes are seen or symptoms develop.

I want to ask if a surgery a better option at this stage? What are the latest treatment options available? Is gamma knife a safe option?

Answer
GammaKnife treatment is a possibility IF your tumour is not too big. If around 1 inch (2.54 cm or 25.4 mm) in size or smaller it probably should be possible. Surgery is of course also an option as is this waiting procedure. If I was in your situation and my tumour was small enough my choice would be the GammaKnife or proton beams (about the same results and the same size limitations). Good luck! Please do keep me posted!
