Brain Tumors/Grade 111 astrocytoma

Question
My daughter in law (35yrs and diagnosed terminal) has had two debulking ops, one two and a half years ago and one in Feb this year and one Rt treatment and now has been told the Rt outcome is "good" because although the tumour is more active it has not grown.  My family feel the oncologist is holding back in some way.  The outcome, we accept, is likely to end in some months time...up to 12 months.  What is the oncologist avoiding saying?
I read on your site some time ago and now cannot find the reference that antidepressants are of benefit to tumours... Can you advise.  My son has been told there never has been any research into cloperidine (hope I got that word right)
Thanking you Barbara

Answer
Well, she has a grade III astrocytoma. Surgery & radiation therapy can not at present cure her unfortunately only prolong her survival time to some extent. As far as I know there is NO therapeutic effect of antidepressants in the treatment of malignant brain tumours - as this is. I am not aware of any such research as you mention but do not know of any reason either why we should expect any kind of effect of it. I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!
