Question
Hi - a friend of mine lost his mother to a brain tumour, followed by his aunt (mother's sister) and his grandmother has just died from the a brain tumour. Can this possibly be no more than a coincidence?
Would there be any benefit in the remaining family members having an MRI scan? If anything was detected in any case, can it be treated if a cancerous tumour? I know that there are different types of tumour and unfortunately I do not know which types each of these women had but I am worried for him.
Thank you

Answer
At the moment no hereditary factors are known with regards to brain tumors. But I agree this seems as it may be more than a coincidence. I think your friend should discuss this with a neurologist or a neurosurgeon or an oncologist. Well MRI scans would at least not harm them.
