Brain Tumors/Sinus Headache or Brain Tumor

Question
Hello. I am a 29 yr old male who is currently being treated for depression and
panic disorder. Three days ago, I began having a sinus headache (dull /
around the eyes into the forehead) and a generally ill feelings - like I typically
have when I am coming down with a cold or flu. I still have this headache and
feeling, but no cold or flu - just minor nasal congestion. I am a bit of a
hypochondriac, so I automatically think brain tumor. I am a Ph.D. student in
my final year of course work, and I have been under an immense amount of
stress. Also, I recently discontinued taking Prozac (over 1 month ago) for
depression, so that may be contributing to my symptoms. Along with this
persistent headache, and generally ill feeling, I have been more tired than
usual these last few days. I know you cannot make any diagnosis without
examining me; however, I was wondering if you could tell me if brain tumors
are likely to display the symptoms I am experiencing? Is there any cause for
concern? Thank you very much.

Answer
You NEVER diagnose a brain tumor after just 3 days of symptoms (unless found by accident on a CT or MRI scan done for other purposes), because the probability that those symptoms are caused by something else and much more common is overwhelmingly big! So if you have these symptoms let an ENT dr. check you so that you will not run into bigger sinus infection trouble! If you have these depression and panic disorder problems, why did you stop taking Prozac? You are what you are and probably need that kind of medication in order to function properly just like a diabetic may need insulin! The mind is a function of an organ, the brain, so if your brain needs this medication in order to function better you better take it! The symptoms you describe do not make me think of a brain tumor as the first alternative. A sinus infection is FAR MORE probable!
