Question
My father has stage 4 Merkel Cell that has spread to his lymph nodes, bones and eventually brain. He is home now, unable to leave the hospital bed, eats very little and is on Oxycodone, fentanyl patch all the time. He was lucid and talking to me 3 days ago but seems to be slipping into a sleeping state, can't get his hands to his mouth and unaware of his surroundings...is this the effects of the medicine or the tumor? Actually it can be either or both in combination, really no way to tell. As the daughter tumors in his brain grow this effect unfortunately will be more pronounced and he will sleep more and more and be more confused. Eventually he will drift into a coma and then pass away. There may be epileptic fits though as well as stroke like symptoms. Luckily not much pain - if any at all. I'm sorry I have nothing better to tell you!
