My husband was diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiforme grade 4 brain tumor at MD Anderson. The surgery was in December 2012 and the tumor was completely removed by the surgeon. He had radiation and oral chemotherapy and has been cancer free for 26 months (Feb. 2015). We know the odds and we know that we are very lucky. The first year, only 46% survive; the second year--20%; third year--7% and only 4% survive five years. So it is possible to beat this horrible disease for longer more than a year.

My husband had this type of tumour in 1989, when he was 15 years old (almost 16, really).   He had surgery, chemo and radiation.   He has had health issues related to the treatments he received but so far is still doing well. (married and the father of 3 healthy kids)
