Brain Tumors - pain in back of head

Expert: Claes-Gustaf Nordquist, M.D. - 1/8/2007

Question
Hello, my wife has been complaining about pain in the back of her head on oneside.  It's right above her neck and also behind the ear.  It is always there.  She said it radiates down to her neck too and her jaw hurts.  Sometimes in the morning I can hear her jaw actually crack really loud from that side.  She said the pain is a dull ache on just the left side, neck, back of head and jaw and ear.  CAn a brain tumor cause these symptoms?  I don't think she has a brain tumor at all, but she is convinced it is.  She has been to several regular doctors and they don't feel the need to send her for test.  They looked at her eyes and did some relex test and they said everything is fine.  She is making herself so worried and angry at me thinking I don't care.  What kind of headaches do brain tumors cause?  Is it also true that if you have a brain tumor on the left side of the brain that, you would have symptoms on the right part of the body and vise of verse?  Does it sound like I should have her tested for more stuff?  I am alittle concerned that she has had the pain now for 3months. IT's not severe where she can't do anything, she just says its like a dull ache.  She also has gone to a chiropractor and they found that she has something wrong with her cervical spine.  It's crooked or something.  Could this cause lower head pain?  I just don't want to be blowing something off if something could possibley be wrong. Any infor waould be great.
Shawn

Answer
It does not sound like a brain tumour problem, but she obviously has a problem! Could very well be due to a neck problem but without an examination it is not possible to be sure. I think you should consult both a neurologist AND an orthopedic surgeon! Even consultations with an ear-nose-and-throat surgeon and a dentist may be necessary.
