Question
How common is radiation necrosis following one time dose of gammaknife radiation.  My husband has suffered from damage to his cerebrum and cerebellum following one time radiation.  Is the damage usually permanent.

Answer
If that has happened the therapy was probably not given properly. In a correctly executed GammaKnife treatment the radiation mostly ends up in the target - here the acoustic neuroma - not as obviously here in its surroundings! Maybe also the dose level needs to be checked!
