Brazil/Consulting for a Brazilian company

Question
I am an American living in Texas. A Brazilian software company wants to hire me as a consultant for a period of at least 6 months. They understand that about 17% in tax will need to be added to my fees. But they also believe that in order for me to get paid at all, I must register as a foreign investor at BACEN, form a Brazilian company, submit invoices from that company and get paid in country, and then transfer the payments back to America. That seems like a lot of trouble. Can't I just get paid directly for my consulting services?

Answer
Bob,

You are right. It is a lot of headache, time, paperwork and money.

My recommendation is to create a company in US (if you don't have one) and send an invoice to the Brazilian company. They can send the payment directly to your bank account in Texas.

Good luck!
