Brazil/CPF Number

Question
After almost a month of waiting for a CPF, I finally got my number. However, I still need to wait another month or so to receive the actual CPF card. Will I be able to open my bank account in Brazil if I know my number, or do I have to show the card as well? I'm hoping just knowing my CPF number will allow me to take care of everything I need. The idea of waiting another month with no bank account is scary to say the least. :) Thank you.

Answer
Lauren,
Just having a CPF number or card is not sufficient open a bank account in Brazil. Usually (i.e. I have heard that some agents offer to 'help', but never heard of anyone who got one this way, nor the circumstances and fees), you must also have permanencia and present the associated documents. You have not mentioned what your status is in Brazil, so I cannot advise further at this time.
