Question
Hello Edison,

What type of AC plug does Brazil use?  My understanding is 2 pin round (Euro type)or 2 Pin flat (US Type)can all be used...

I've heard rumor that Brazil is upgrading theAC plug to 3 pins type? Can you confirm or where can I get more info on the proposed new 3 pins (round) AC Plug?

Thanks,
James

Answer
Hello James,

The most common is the 2-pin round plug. In some places you can find a mix of round and flat 2-pin outlets (see: http://www.world-electric-guide.com/brazil_power.htm).

Starting next year, Brazil will have 2 standards, the traditional 2-pin round and a new 3-pin connector, as shown on: http://certiel.wordpress.com/2009/10/27/prazos-do-novo-padrao-de-plugues-e-tomad...

Brazil also has a mix voltage standard, 220V in some states and 110V on the others, see: http://www.world-electric-guide.com/

If you are playing to travel to Brazil, you should bring a round to flag 2-pin adapter.

Write me again if you need more details.
