Brazil/Bahia

Question
Hi Sandra

What industries are in Bahia. Are there any factories and what kind?

Thank you

Answer
Bahia does not have a lot of industry. It is a comparatively poor state.  The interior of the state is rural, growing sugar cane, dende, and bamboo, among other crops. Much of Salvador's economy is based on tourism. In the Salvador area, PetroBras (the national oil company)is one of the larger industrial employers, Ford has a factory (giving rise to the beach name Placaford, for the sign), there is a steel plant, and some smaller 'fabricas' exist, many in the Camarcari area.
