Brazil/Passports And Visas

Question
Hi, Sandra. When you first land in Rio de Janeiro, where do you have to show your passport and visa? And who looks at it? Is it when you first get off the plane? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Kristen.
As in entering most countries, you get off the plane and proceed directly to passport control. If a number of planes (international flights) have landed at the same time, there may be a long line. The Brazilian government staff person in the booth there looks at the visa in your passport. You then go to baggage claim, and through customs, where most recently you are required to put your bags through an x-ray machine. Then you are clear to exit and meet anyone who is waiting or get ground transportation.
