Question
Hello Sandra,

I am traveling to Curitiba and would like a little tourist information about what I can do there, and in the surrounding area.  I will be there for two weeks, taking Portuguese classes, so will only have the weekends free.

Also, any websites about Curitiba or tourism in the area would be useful.

Thanks,

Jared

Answer
Hi Jared.

Curitiba is known as a safe, clean and prosperous city, but not as much of a tourist destination.
Here is one site in English that may help:
www.curitiba-travel.com.br

As for weekend destinations and activities, you could take the very picturesque train ride to Paranagua:

We went tubing on the Rio Nhundiaquara in Morretes one day and had fun. A lot of people were swimming in the river. Try the local dish, barreado, for lunch.

You could also go to the many gorgeous beaches of Santa Catarina island and/or visit Florianopolis.
Ilha do Mel is also a weekend possibility.

Have a great visit.
