Brazil/mail computer to sao paolo

Question
my stepdaughter has been in sao paolo for 1 week and will be attending the University of Sao Paolo.   I want to buy her a computer in the United States and mail it to her.  Will there be a cost other than the postage?   Carla

Answer
It depends on the method you use to send the computer, and if the package is opened at customs. The tax could be equal to the value if opened and assessed as new, making it the same price as one purchased in Brazil. It might be useful to contact one of the companies who specialize in moving cartons economically door to door from the U.S. to Brazil, such as Confianca or FastWay.
