Question
Me and my family are considering moving to Brazil. My wife is Brazilian and we have been there many times. How would i get our personnel items shipped to Brazil including a 2004 dodge ram 1500 and what kind of fees or taxes would we be paying for importing our personnel items and our truck?

Answer
It's not legal to ship a motorized vehicle unless it's new or a "classic". A new car would incur more than equal the value in tax and fees, equal to the price of purchase in Brazil.
To move possesions, you could rent a container or you could ship boxes with a company such as Confianca or FastWay. With a container, you'd probably have to contract with a despachante at the port of entry to help it clear customs in a relatively efficient manner.
You and your wife have a certain amount of value, without tax, that you can bring with you when moving.
If you are considering moving, many helpful topics are regularly discussed on the forum of the expat site www.gringoes.com
Best of luck.
