Brazil/Unanswered Visa Question

Question
All sites mention that visitors have a 180-day limit per year and it irks me that the text used to explain this is copied-and-pasted from one site to another.

I understand all the issues regarding 90 days on entry and getting extended to a maximum of an addition 90 days--180 days total per year. I won't rehash that here. But what about this scenario:

Scenario: Suppose I have a Brazil Tourist visa and stay up to my 180-day limit and then return to my home country... Now, let's say I apply immediately apply for a Brazil Business visa and it is granted...

My question is this: Can I return right away to Brazil, effectively getting more than 180 days' stay within a one-year window because I had switched my visa type?

Thank you in advance for an accurate answer to this question.

Answer
Hello Jim,

I understand your frustration with the confusing Brazilian visa regulation. I am not am expert on the subject and my recommendation is to contact a Brazilian consulate:  http://www.brasilemb.org/index.php?Itemid=86&id=36&option=com_content&task=view

Good luck!
