QuestionMy name is Abhishek Basu Roy.....I am an architect from India.....Well its an amazing country I live in....and I have traveled more or less throughout the country and it still never ceases to amaze me....But apart from pure architecture I had been also interested in Multitasking---works which will take to me to different countries...learn about those countries...
My stay in different parts of India has shown me the various different lifestyles, colours cultures within this country itself & this has just increased my appetite to Know more, see more.
I had been thinking of few places and then the latin American part of the globe drew my attention....I thought it would be great if I could visit those amazing places as an architect...work there, know their culture, share my own cultural beliefs. Well just the thought of being in a place like Mt. Machu Pichu and getting inspired is awesome. However I do not have much of an idea about the demands for architect in countries like Brazil,Argentina, Peru,Chile, etc....I am doing my homework as to which of these countries will be more receptive to Indian architect. I am about to learn a Latin American language from next week (20th of Dec)like Portuguese which is predominant in Brazil or Spanish which is spoken widely in the rest of the countries. The problem is Spanish is not spoken in Brazil but that is where the construction boom is...& at the same time learning Portuguese closes my door in any of the other Latin american countries because they dont follow it.Do the Brazilian Architects folllow Spanish?
So I thought of getting some expert advise before starting my language classes, which probably will make job prospects bit easier--So will be looking forward to your suggestions at the earliest.
Regards,
Abhishek.
AnswerHello Abhishek Basu Roy,
Portuguese and Spanish are very similar (cousin) languages, so, if you learn one of them, you can "survive" in any country in Latin America. My recommendation is to learn Portuguese, since there are more job opportunities in Brazil than most other countries in South American.
Good luck!
