Brazil/permanent visa for retirees

Question
Hi, We bought a house in Brazil and want to apply for a retirement visa.  We haven't actually filled out the application, but in emails from the consulate, they have stated that 401K, IRA, or annuity funds would not count toward the $2000 per month requirement. That it must come entirely from a pension.  We have checked with other people who say this isn't so.  Do you have any ideas? Do you know any good immigration attorneys who might could assist us?  Thank you, Sharon

Answer
The law as I understand it is that, yes, one must show a *pension* of at least U$2K per month, and that any other funds do not count.
I can't imagine that a lawyer could change the law as written, unless perhaps he used 'jeitinho' (and happened to know who to bribe :-).
You can enjoy your 6 months a year in Brazil to which the tourist visa entitles you.
Happy travels.
