Brazil/opportunities in Brasil for a musician

Question
Hello,

Currently I live in London. I'm planning to go to Brasil for a month first but then to move there. Do you think as a music teacher can I find any job there? If yes is the salary enough for living?

Thank you for your help

Réka

Answer
Réka, on a tourist visa, you can stay in Brazil legally for 90 days with a renewal for another 90, total 6 months. You cannot work legally on a tourist visa. To get a work visa, a music school, conservatory, or the music department of a university would have to sponsor you, stating that there was no Brazilian trained to do the job--very difficult.

Most jobs come from the people you and your circle of friends and relatives know.

You may investigate other ways of obtaining a legal visa, but there isn't an easy category for you as a music teacher or musician.

Learn Portuguese to a good level of communication. Few people speak English.

Brazilians are passionate about their music, especially the unique domestic styles. Come to vacation, play with some locals and start making contacts.

Boa viagem e boa sorte.
