i am married to a Brazilian girl we have been living and working in London u.k. my wife has permanent residency now,but we would like to return to brazil,as my wife has all her large family in Sao Paulo,what documentation to i need to live work and purchase a small business,we have a small apartment in Sao Paulo in my wifes maiden name pls could you advise procedure and wether to do it here or in brazil i hold a u.k.passport many thanks,paolo& neires

You should speak to the Brazilian Consulate in London. You can apply for permanencia there. It is more expensive, but will take much less time, than applying once in Brazil. (and when applying in Brazil, a surprise home visit is also included, which some prefer to avoid)

You should also prepare to take full advantage of a window you will have with your permanencia to ship personal items tax free.

You might want to take a look at the forum on the expat site www.gringoes.com, whose members regularly discuss a lot of the questions you have posed, and more. (overlook some of the trolls/idiots/provocateurs who post, though)
