Brazil/Living in Salvador da Bahia

Question
Hello Sandra,

I am a U.S. citizen planning to land in Salvador da Bahia in late December with around $1200 USD to my name.  My goal is to find work as an English teacher (I'm TEFL certified) and be able to live for at least 6 months in Salvador.  I'm 25 and will be traveling alone.

My questions:
What do you estimate is the cost of daily living in Salvador?  I hope to rent a room in a house or apartment (where will depend on the prices) and after quite a bit of traveling I'm used to living simply and not spending much.
If I am not able to find work, how much time can I realistically expect $1200 USD to sustain me in Salvador?

Thanks so much for making your expertise available!

I have removed my detailed and accurate answer to your questions, since from your response, I feel I wasted my time giving factual information based on over a decade of being in Salvadorto someone who would rather believe what she dreams is true about a place she demonstrates she is not at all familiar with.
