Question
Hello.  I will be going to Angra dos Reis in January 2008.  I would like to know how I can secure an apartment from January 5, 2008-April 20, 2008.  I would like the apartment to be nice and centrally located in a safe area.   Also, what is the typical cost to rent an apartment in this area?  Any information that you can direct me to would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Apartments, huh? This I do not know off the top of my head and would require some homework.  I can tell you that in that time period of Jan, rooms wiill boom up very fast so you will hve to do this before the end of the month.  Angra is a very tranquil town, not like Rio de Janeiro. Sure there are some places that are not as pretty; but violence is not a major issue. OF course, you wouldnt walk around $10,000 watches.

An Apt in Angra, depending on proximity to beach, will cost you around R$1,000 a week to R$1,800.  Deepends on size. This would be the ballpark you should bet on.

Remember, the dollar is very weak here, around R$1.70.

Try contacting Bill Hinchberger at Brazilmax.com re: Angra.  Or visit the website, Gringoes.ccm for possibly more information. Im unaffiliated. I know the owners, but do not know for sure if they have exactly what you are looking for. You can email Bill from Braxilmax, tell him I sent you, and he might be able to point u in the righte direction.
