Brazil/Moving to Rio

Question
Hello and thank you for helping me. I would like to move to Brazil in the Rio area. What are my options for housing, how much does it cost and what does it take to get a job? My portuguese is bad but getting better. After spending some time there, I fell in love with a Carioca who cannot get a visa to come here. If I decided to move there to see if things work out, what can I expect? Thank you again for your advise and I wish you a happy new year!

Answer
Anne,

It is not very easy to get a working permission and find a job in Brazil without knowing Portuguese very well.

You could try to make some money by giving private English lessons. But it will take you some time to find students.

The cost of housing depends where you live. But you would need at least US$2,000 per month for a comfortable life there.

My best recommendation is to get help from your Carioca boyfriend.
