Brazil/cost of living in Brazil

Question
Hi there! My boyfriend and myself are currently looking into gaining our TEFL certification and teaching english abroad in Brazil. I was curious as to how you felt a salary ranging from 300-600 US dollars would pan out working in brazil....we would love to be placed in Rio, but will go almost anywhere that we can be placed close together/in the same city....would that kind of salary be us just getting by or barely supporting ourselves? thanks!

Answer
Hello Sarah,

Just to keep things in prospect: the minimum wage in Brazil is around US$160 and a middle class salary is US$1,000-2,000.

To be safe in Rio (or any other big site in Brazil) you need to leave in a nice area, which cost more money.

I think that each of you need to make at least US$500 a month. This value could be US$300 (each) if you live in a small town. The problem is to find a teaching job on those places.

Good luck,
