Question
I know that Brazil is a Federative republic but what is a federative republic?  Also what is the current leader's name?

Answer
Hello Sam,

Federative Republic means that Brazil is composed of states which retain only subordinate and limited sovereignty (as the Union of the United States).

All states have their own elected officials, police and laws. But they need to follow the federal constitution and the federal government's laws.

The current leader of Brazil is president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

If you need more information, please send me another question.
