Question
Hi

Ive been with my girlfreind for 7 years and we have a three year old son and live together in our own home but we are not married.
She told me that i have hurt her fellings and that see dosent love me anymore and that she needs space to sort her feelings out. I moved out for 3 weeks and just went round to see her and my son, me and her would watch a film together and some times have a cuddle, she would ask for a foot massage which I did for her, she said that i did not show her love and was not their for our son when she needed me most. We havent had sex for 4 months before all this came out but i just thought see wasnt in the mood. We talked and Ive moved back in she said you know that i dont have any feelings for you but i will try for the three of us but she said i need to be patent,we sleep in the same bed and i some times cuddle her depending on how she seems, she seems very cold though, i run her a bath every night, light candles in the bath room for her, dress up nice and try to look my best, i gave her a massage in the front room the other night (she was nakid) but i was only alowed to do her back and not see her front, when i asked to do the front she said no, ive given her foot massages every night as well, sent flowers to work and ballons and she just said stop with the sending to work stuff as it dosent seem right, i try to hold her hand and she does hold back but only slightly, i said we should go away on holiday together as a family to help us get though this but she just said that it was not a good idear as we are at each others throtes at home, Ive told her how i feel about her time and time again, last saturday we went out with her family and she held my leg and give me cuddles when we were out and cuddled but to me on the floor to sleep at the friends house but the next day she was cold again, i do love her but dont know how to play it, she just keeps saying that she need time to see if her love for me comes back.
What should i do ????

Answer
Dear Steve,
Why don't you take a time out and move out for awhile.  During this time be the best dad that you can be, but also suggest couples counseling to your girlfriend.  You can't continue to stay in a situation and just "hope" that it gets better.  You have to play a proactive role, but also protect yourself.  Your allowing her to keep you on an emotional roller coaster.  A counselor can provide both of you with exercises to possibly get that "spark" back into the relationship or help the two of you decide whether or not this relationship is worth saving.  In the meantime ~ give her some space and yourself some space because nothing is going to change her mind right now.... trust me... Good Luck
