How to Breakup/Deal With Break Ups - its been a while

Question
I am 18 years old now with a great boyfriend of 4 months.. but No matter what I do I always get reminded of the first serious relationship I had.
I was turning 16 and I started dating this boy in the same grade as me in high school, we dated for about 8 months off and on, all but the last break up my choice, and i cheated on him once two weeks into our relationship around christmas time, but we moved on great and then when he broke up with me, i had sex with a close friend of his that I was rooming with at the time. I had never done a thing like this before, and it took me until I started my boyfriend now, to stop "obsessing" over it. I couldn't forgive myself and couldn't stop thinking about how great he was and how I loved him. we said i love you, our actually relationship except for the last month when I was going through way too many changes, went wonderful.
I keep thinking now, that i'll never forget my first love, even though i'm with somebody else that is amazing. I've stopped talking to him now, we graduated high school in peace and it was some what heartbreaking but i was glad that i left him alone.
i begged and pleaded for almost all of those two years to talk to him, hear something from him. i tried myspace, letters, notes at school, and it wasn't until 4 months ago, i got talking to him and his best friend through his best friend's cell phone through texting that we got into a heated argument, an actual fight! where we called each other names and told each other that we hated each other that i felt it was time to stop and felt satisfied.
I want to know, do you think I really loved my first serious boyfriend?
and do you think there is a way i'll ever be able to talk to him again down the road in a different, better, happier state?
even today, its still gives me that awful sad feeling when i think of him. but then i'll dream of him, and for a while it was non-stop, dreams where we would be happy and okay, just holding hands and laughing. i feel like i dont get those dreams as much anymore, but i definitely still do get them from time to time. helllppp. he lives right down the street from me, i have to run by his house on my jogging route. the reminders never stop coming.

Answer
It does sound like you were in love with him, and sometimes it is hard to forget a first love, and if you were truly head over heels in love with your new boyfriend you wouldn't still be dreaming about the old one..thats why your still not over him.

I think that maybe a year or so down the road perhaps you two can be friends again, just give it some time after the last dramatic episode. Next time be friendly, be the bigger person even if he does say something you don't like.

It does take time to get over someone though, so give it some time..

Good luck

Julie
