How to Breakup/Deal With Break Ups - she still loves me

Expert: Austin - 6/3/2005

Question
My girlfriend and I have been dating for 2 1/2 years, and living together for almost one.  The other day she moved back in with her mom because her mom needed her rent money (which is reality, not an excuse).  Everything in our relationship had been normal as always up until then, no problems.  We had a great day together the day of the move, and discussed how it would not affect us and that it was only to help out her mom.  Well the next day all of a sudden, she comes to me and says she needs her freedom.  She loves me and wants to be with me in the future, but she wants the chance to be free and be with whomever she wishes.  Then last night I found out that there is already another guy, who is 35.  She's 19.  When I met her and she was 17, I was the 15th guy she'd slept with.  I am the first and only person to ever bring her to orgasm, she loves the sex and we have an enormously strong relationship.  I don't understand her sudden change of heart, esp. when she says she still wants to be with me later on down the road.  She wants to remain "best" friends and says that she would even still sleep with me because she trusts me so much.  I am a 22 year old guy with a full time career and a house, and have everything to offer her.  This new guy doesn't even have his own car and depends on her for a ride (usually drunken rides because they met at the bar she works at part-time).  She seems to be a totally different person when she is drinking.  During the past few days we have had good strong conversations about the situation, and she wanted me to come see her at work last night.  Then when I show up and she has had a few drinks, I get the cold shoulder.  I don't understand her thoughts and why she would ruin a relationship that she still cares so much about.  Everytime we talk about it the past 2 days she cries as if she knows she is making a mistake, but has made up her mind for some reason and is being stubborn.  I told her that I will give her whatever she wants, and let her do her own thing.  But I also told her that if she was to sleep with another guy and then come back to me, that I feel that is cheating, only with an excuse of "i was single".  I told her that hurts more than doing it behind my back, and that if she were to do it that I would not take her back.  Am I wrong? What is she thinking? And what should I do?

Answer
Jason,
Man i am sorry to hear bout this..

No, I dont believe you are wrong in saying what you did..
I agree with you on that..

the way I see it,  u were here first real LONG term relationship... she has been a girl to just get with a guy sleep with them and move on...  maybe not so quickly  but u get the point..  she is not used to what u r giving her... strongt love... it has scared her to a point where she feels she needs to go back to her own ways..

i suggest u DO NOT sleep with her on the side... that is only going to hurt you more in the end...   going to give you false hopes...    yes friends with benefits would be nice at time but it is not worth the headaches..

so give her her SPACE or FREEDOM  and in the meantime... u take your awesome life you have going for you and continue it... u ahve alot to offer someone... SOMEONE SPECIAL..someone who does not need to experience a life of their past and can be happy with having one man love them...

so dont let her hold you back.. u move on with life... enjoy it to its fullest... and if someone comes along that catches your attention u grab that opportunity to get to know another sweet woman...

not every relationship is meant to last forever..

i believe u r mature enough and haev a great head on your shoulder to know somethign good when u have it..

take care man
