Question
The day following my 61st birthday I was informed that an ultrasound revealed  a 2cm mass @ 2:00 left breast, designated "suspicious."  A biopsy is being scheduled.  I am quite nervous, can you give me information with regards to what I might anticipate.

Thank you,
Liz

Answer
Well it either is or is not a cancer. If not there is hardly a problem. If it is it is in my opinion a little too big for just a "lumpectomy" & local radiation therapy. So I would probably suggest a somewhat bigger surgical procedure but a mastectomy may be possible to avoid. A sentinel lymph node biopsy should also be done as well as radiation therapy and maybe hormonal therapy. Should the node biopsy be positive further surgery may be needed as well as chemotherapy and maybe hormonal therapy. Your biopsy now should be done as soon as possible. Good luck!
