Question
Dr. Nordquist,

My mother had a mastectomy about 3 weeks ago.  Her doctor failed to explain her post operative lab results to her and hurried her through her appointment.  We have several medical terms on a paper her doctor gave her that we need translated into real English.  What are cytokeratin positive cells in subcapsular sinus region of the lymph node?  What is mild ductal hyperplasia?  What does T2 PNO (ITC)mx stage llA breast cancer?  Also, my mother had to lymph glands removed.  She has a lot of pain under her arm.  How long is it usually before the pain lessens?  Thank you so much for your time.

Answer
In order to explain this as well as possible to you I would need to read her full (whole) pathology report! Please copy & paste it in here and I'll tell you what it all means. Normally the pain should go away after a few weeks at least. So if it remains for much longer you should discuss it with her surgeon.
