Breast Cancer/found a lump

Question
I have found a lump about the size of a dime on my breast. It is on the upper part of my breast. It is a little tender to the touch. This is not something that has happened before. I am 26 yrs old, and the mother of 4.
I had my last child just over a year ago (Feb 2007). My cycles didn't start until Dec 2007. When I have my cycle it is extremely heavy (super plus tampon every 45 mins-max hour) for about 3 days. I am in day two right now. I found this lump this morning. My grandmother had breast cancer and a cousin had a different form of cancer when she was 15yrs. other than that the family all around is cancer free.

Answer
The fact that it is tender makes it less likely that it is a cancer. It also seems to be related to your period, so it may well be a sign of a fibrocystic breast condition that has nothing to do with breast cancer. To be sure of that however I strongly recommend 1. a thin needle aspiration biopsy of the lesion - should be easy to do since it can be felt (if available), 2. x-ray mammograms of your breasts, 3. ultrasound AND MRI breast scans. With these investigations the diagnosis should be quite certain!

Thanks! Your age and medical history - apart from your family history - also make cancer less likely.
