Breast Cancer/Steriotactic Breast Biopsy

Question
I am scheduled for the subject procedure next Friday because my mammogram this year saw calcium deposits in the left breast.  I had breast cancer in that breast ten years ago and had a lumpectomy followed by radiation and chemotherapy.  I also have breast implants which I got in my thirties, I am now 76.  I was wondering what dangers might exist from the radiation, is there much possibility that they will puncture my implants?  If the results are benign will they need to repeat the procedure each year?

Answer
Well all radiation can cause cancer just as it can treat cancers. But usually that happens a LONG time after exposure. When were you treated? Your previous radiation may be a complication though if any more radiation should be planned. They most probably should be able to avoid puncturing your implants. If what is seen is benign and nothing new appears in the coming years new biopsies can probably be avoided too. Good luck!
