Breast Cancer/gene test

Question
Hi. Can anyone go to their doctor and request a test to find out if they have the breast cancer gene, or does something else have to be done first? Thanks

Answer
If you are prepared to pay most things can be arranged, but it will not be cheap! Also, most breast cancer cases still have no known genetic link so even if nothing is found there is yet no guarantee that you will not get breast cancer at some time in life. Honestly, unless you have a distinct family history of breast cancer I see such a test as a waste of money at present.
