Question
QUESTION: My daughter is 15 years old and found 3 lumps under her right arm, we have been to our GP, she gave her medication, but the lumps are still there.

Is a biopsy necessary and is it possible that this can be breast cancer

Thank you kindly

ANSWER: Breast cancer in a 15 year old girl is extremely rare! But if you want to be SURE what it is a biopsy (easiest, quickest, simplest and probably cheapest as a thin/fine needle aspiration biopsy) or biopsies is/are necessary. Good luck!

QUESTION: Hi there, thanks for the answer above. Does my daugther have to go into theatre for the biopsy or is there any other way of doing the biopsy?

Answer
If it is done as a fine/thin needle aspiration biopsy or as several such biopsies as mentioned above there is no need for any surgery. Such a biopsy is no more complicated than an injection! However if that is not available where you are then a surgical biopsy becomes necessary.
