Breast Cancer/breast calcifications

Question
I am 33 and recently had a diagnostic mammo because of fibercystic pain. It showed many calcifications scattered through out each breast.  and then a cluster of pleomorphic calcifications.  I did have a stereotatic biopsy and did come back as benign.  Mastitis.  My question is all of the scattered calcifications?  I have nursed 3 babies in the last 5 years.  What causes these?  Are they ok to have?

Answer
Some breast calcifications are associated with breast cancer but many have nothing to do with cancer at all. Why they are there are not known. Since you have fibrocystic breast problems and therefore probably dense breasts your mammograms should always be complemented with MRI AND ultrasound breast scans. If anythin unclear still is seen needle biopsies should be used to find out what it is. Good luck!
