Question
I had a biopsy done and I have been told different things and now I am very confused. I was sent for a mammogram for no reason, no family history, no lump nothing. I am 35 yr old and in the biopsy it says:
2.9 cm in greatest dimension, right breast gauge mammotome biopsy: Microfibroadenoma with rare minute microcalcifications. the doctor that did the biopsy said not to worry just a tumor, but make sure you get rechecked every 6 months, my family doctor said it is cancerous tumor but that it just didn't develop into cancer yet. so was this breast cancer? is that why i need to go back every six months or what. Also what causes the calcification? I have it in my bladder, back, arm, leg, kidney, gall bladder, ovaries, am I right to start to worry about this?
This is NOT a cancer! Calcifications sometimes happen to develop in breasts, no one knows why. Some of them are associated with breast cancer, others - like here - are not. Personally I find mammography every 6 months somewhat overambitious. Once per year is more what I myself would recommend unless you have a very clear family history of breast cancer.
