Question Three weeks ago I found a palpable lump that is visual from the outside of my skin. In the next week or so I have found another small lump. My PCP did an exam, found the lumps, and sent me for an ultrasound (I am 27yrs). The lumps were not able to be identified on the ultrasound, however the dr. was able to feel them. Side note: I had a biopsy in Jan on the other breast and have a fibroadenoma.
My PCP is having me follow up with a breast surgeon. Is this necessary? How can a palpable lump not be seen on an ultrasound?
Thank you.
Answer Depends on what kind of tissue that is in the lump. If there is very little difference between that of the lump and that of its surroundings nothing can be seen. However a fine/thin needle aspiration biopsy of your lump can - if available - tell us what it is. Lumps should always be checked!
