Question
Hello doctor .I want to know things about breast cancer. How can we protect ourselves from this sort of cancer and how it can be treated?

Answer
You can not protect yourself much. Except by trying to eliminate some risk factors like avoiding some hormone medication (discuss this with your gynecologist), breast feeding your children (should be done), having your first child early, having many children and controlling your body weight, there is not much you can do. It is also important to have regular breast check ups (especially if you have breast cancer in your family) starting not later than when in your 50-ies and probably already in your 40-ies and if there is a clear family connection even earlier. These check ups should include mammography, ultrasound & MRI breast scans and if anything seen is unclear needle biopsies or surgical biopsies (needle biopsies are easier). Treatment includes surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy & hormonal therapy. What combination to use depends on individual circumstances.
