Breast Cancer/diagnostic tests

Question
I have an order - Dx for exam: Lump or Mass in Breast (61172); clinical information: rt diag. mammo w/ spot compression.  Does this order mean that a lump or mass was found on my breast?  Also, do I have to fast before taking this test?

Answer
Well something must have been seen or no biopsy would have been ordered. What that something is is not evident but will probably be revealed by the biopsy. Well will this be a needle biopsy or a surgical biopsy? If a needle biopsy no fasting will definitely be necessary. If a surgical biopsy and only local anesthesia is used no fasting will be necessary but it will be necessary if a general anesthesia of any kind is used. So you better find out what is planned.
