Breast Cancer/mammogram

Question
I have had chemo and radiation for breast cancer of the left breast. Part of it was taken along with all the lymph glands on the left side under the arm. I still have my port in place on the left side as well.  I finished chemo 01-13-10 and radiation therapy 04-15-10. I have quite a lot of swelling left going around under the arm towards my back.  I have had a mri of the breast but am being told I must have a regular mammogram. It will be so very painful. Is there any other procedure I can ask for instead or perhaps a different type of mammogram other than the compression?  thank you.

Answer
Unfortunately not. Compression is necessary for technical reasons. My only advice must be that you fortify yourself with a suitable pain killer in advance! Good luck!
