Question
My doctor found a movable 1 cm nodule on right breast at 9 o'clock and scattered nodulaity density on left breast.  I am schedualed for an ultra sound and mammogram n/w. I am 41 yrs old & been on HRT for 14 years.  My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer 1yr ago. Are the above findings in the dr's breast exam apt to remain in a high precentage rate of being benign? Thanks in advance.

Answer
You did not tell me how many children you have, how old you were when your first child was born, how long and to what extent you nursed your children etc. That makes any risk evaluation impossible. The fact that you do have breast cancer in your family is however a warning sign so it is NOT possible to assume that your findings are benign. Your age also supports that these examinations should be done. So does your hormone treatment. I also think that a needle biopsy of your nodule in your right breast should be done right away in order to obtain a diagnosis. That can be done guided by touch or guided by ultrasound. Good luck!
