Breast Cancer/precancerous breast

Question
A friend of mine has been diagnosed as having a pre-cancerous breast condition. she underwent a biopsy and ultrasound to confirm these. she is in her mid forties, she has been advised to undergo a partial mastectomy of which she is about to do, due to the findings of multiple calcium deposits in her left breast. I was hoping that she would get a second opinion but she is not wasting anytime she says. My major concerns are what are the risk factors with these kind of surgery and also what would be the best material to use for re-construction.

Answer
Personally I have no problem with this type of surgery. I'm even inclined to recommend a total mastectomy (with reconstruction) as a prophylactic measure. The surgical risks here are small compared to her cancer risks. For more details with regards to the surgery you have to discuss that with a surgeon. I'm a medical oncologist & radiation therapist.
