Breast Cancer/red circular spot outside of breast

Question
A couple of months ago, I notice a spot under my left nipple about the size of a half dollar.  It was red and my breast was sore.  I watched it and finally made an appt w/ ob/gyn.  He gave me a round of antibodics and said call back if not better at the end of meds.  I called so he referred me to a surgical/breast oncologist who I had seen 3 years ago; I saw him and had surgery for removal of a spot that showed up on my mammogram.  This visit to the dr. he gave me 875 augmentin x 5 days.  He said because my breast shows such dense tissue, he wants to do a mri. He did an ultrasound the day of my visit with no alarming findings.  He said an MRI would show anything that could be hiding in the tissue.  My next visit is Tues.  the red spot is sometimes, red and others pink.  I couldn't get him to tell me what we were ruling out.  What in your opinion are we looking for?  Why has the spot on my breast NOT gone away after 2 rounds of antibodics?  Help this 42 yo alarmed female...

Answer
Since your breasts are dense an MRI breast scan is necessary in order to rule out anything sinister inside your breast(s). Mammography is not good enough alone in dense breasts and ultrasound does not have the same ability. So I agree that such a breast scan is necessary and important. I do not know what your skin lesion is so I can not tell you why it has not gone away. To make sure what it is a biopsy can be done. So to make sure that nothing bad remains undetected both MRI scans and a biopsy can be done. Good luck!
